Gaining Christ

First of all, I need to make a correction from last week. I wrote Romans 9 regarding the conversion of Paul, however, I meant Acts 9.
Ok, so now that is out of the way. Let's dive back into Philippians 3. I am using commentaries to assist with the blog today.
"Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ." Philippians 3:8 ESV
Is there a price tag for getting to know Jesus? Yes, getting to know Jesus is going to cost you. It will cost you time, family, friends and it may cost you money and valuables. Getting to know Christ will take extra time in the prayer closet, so He can heal the broken places of your heart and you will become transformed in His image. It will take Bible Study time, so you can also know His heart. There is a joy that comes with getting to know Christ. We learn to trust Him, with the big and small things. We learn to love Him, and know He also loves us. He becomes our Lord and Savior, where nothing else matters but Him.
Paul lost it all for Jesus and the Gospel. He goes on to say the things he lost were rubbish/garbage. In the Greek, rubbish means "bodily excrement" or "food fit only for dogs." None of which is appropriate for a child of God. Paul suffered a loss, so he could gain Christ.
Yet, we can't lay down our cell phones for 10 minutes to spend with the Lord. Facebook and Instagram scrolls at night, instead of Bible Study and prayer. Closets of clothes and shoes, yet Paul, gave up everything for Jesus.
Following Jesus will cost you! How much more of Jesus do you want in 2024?
May today be blessed,
Veronica
