Flesh or Spirit?

Flesh or Spirit? Which one do you walk by? Our text for today should help you answer the question or it may totally confuse you. The Lord has had me mediating and studying these verses for a while now. Probably trying to get it through my little blonde head; He's funny like that. Before we start today, ask the Lord to bring new revelation and new wisdom to you as we study.

Romans 8:5-8 ESV

5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit.

6 For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.

7 For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God’s law; indeed, it cannot.

8 Those, who are in the flesh, cannot please God.

How do you live your life? Are you walking in the ways of yourself, because this life isn't Burger King, you can't always have your way? When we walk in the flesh, we do what the flesh desires, this is our fallen nature when we are not walking with God.

But when we are walking with the Spirit, our minds are set on the ways of God and walking out His plan and purpose. Completely surrendered and submitted to God.

A life of living like and of the world will ultimately to lead to death. It will also bring about chaos, confusion, and sin.

Oh, but living and setting our minds on the Spirit brings life, grace, hope, peace and joy.

But most of all, the people living in the flesh cannot please God.

I've been there! How about you?!? So many mistakes and decisions brought about because of my own fleshly desires. A path of sin that was leading me down death's row. But God...

Is it hard to walk with the Spirit and not submit to my flesh? Absolutely!! Do I still fail? Yep, sadly, I do! Thank goodness for repentance and the grace of God. I pick myself back up and dust off and keep going.

This road of life is hard. So much harder if you continue to walk in the flesh. Surrender your life today to Christ. Live a life worthy of your calling. Live a life of peace, joy, love, self-control, gentleness, goodness, full of grace and mercy.

Time is short, make the decision today to follow Christ.
